Gov. Mike Braun has reappointed attorneys Suzannah Overholt and John Westercamp to two-year terms on the Indiana Election Commission.

Overholt, a Democrat, and Westercamp, a Republican, will continue serving on the four-member Election Commission until June 30, 2028.  Both their terms were set to expire June 30 of this year.

Westercamp was appointed by Braun to the commission in August 2025 to fill an unexpired term.

Overholt was first appointed in 2012 and is currently the vice chair of the commission.

“I am honored to be reappointed to the Indiana Election Commission,” Overholt said in a statement. The Commission’s role in overseeing the election process is important. The bipartisan structure of the Commission requires that we work together to accomplish the Commission’s objectives, and I am pleased to continue to be a part of that process.”

Westercamp did not respond to a request for comment.

Comprised of two Democrats and two Republicans, the Election Commission’s other members are Karen Celestino-Horseman, a Democrat, and chair Beth Boyce, a Republican. Their terms will end on June 30, 2027.

Each member of the commission is nominated by his or her respective party and then appointed by the governor.

Overholt’s reappointment was recommended by the Indiana Democratic Party.

“As we saw this year, it is extremely important that the Commission has qualified people from both parties who know election law,” Karen Tallian, state Democratic Party chair, said in an email. “Ms. Overholt has served on the Commission for a number of years and the IDP is happy that she agreed to continue her service and we thank the Governor for making this appointment.”

The Indiana Republican Party did not respond to a request for comment.

The Election Commission administers Indiana election law and oversees the conduct of elections. Its duties include ensuring campaign finance reports and candidacy paperwork filed with the Indiana Election Division comply with state law. Also, the commission certifies the voting machines used during elections in Indiana.
