Much like their blue counterparts, the race for secretary of state nominee is turning out to be the most significant. In November, the Republican nominee will run against Democratic nominee Beau Bayh.

Incumbent Diego Morales became the first Latino to hold the secretary of state position in 2022. Former supporters, like Attorney General Todd Rokita, have recently called for Morales to abandon the race, instead choosing to support challenger Max Engling. Engling gained political experience working for the U.S. House of Representatives’ Administration Committee while living in Washington, D.C. After moving back to the Hoosier State, he ran unsuccessfully for Congress.
U.S. Sen. Jim Banks has expressed confidence that Engling will take the position in November. U.S. Rep. Victoria Spartz has also shown support for Engling.
Jamie Reitenour, who has frequently taken stands on voting reforms like attempting to eliminate voting machines and limiting mail-in voting, has joined the race as well. She also ran for governor in 2024.
That makes David Shelton the final challenger in the race for Republican secretary of state nominee. He has pointed out that he remains the sole candidate with election administration experience, saying that this, in addition to his work as a fraud investigator, goes hand in hand with the secretary of state’s office.
The nominees for state treasurer and state comptroller face no challengers, reflecting the Democratic races.
Elise Nieshalla runs unopposed to reclaim the position of state comptroller, which she has occupied since 2023. She’ll run against Jessica Bailey, the Democratic nominee.
Daniel Elliott faces no challengers, making him the Republican nominee for state treasurer, a position he took in 2023. He will face Koumba Kebe in November.
