Beginning August 6 and continuing through August 11, members of the Indiana House Elections and Apportionment Committee and the Senate Elections Committee held joint hearings in each of the state’s nine congressional districts. All took place at Ivy Tech Community College facilities located within each district, with the exception of the final hearing, for the 7th Congressional District, held at the Indiana Statehouse.
Because the first eight hearings were held two at a time, the joint committee was split during those hearings between the northern and central/southern parts of the state.
Legislative leaders said the hearings were intended as a “listening tour” in anticipation of the decennial redrawing of the state’s congressional and legislative districts, expected to begin in mid-September.
