ReCenter Indiana Inc., a civic-engagement organization, will be hosting three  town halls to discuss mid-decade redistricting and listen to Hoosiers’ concerns.

The “nonpartisan listening sessions” are billed as elevating citizen voices and providing critical information about mid-decade redistricting. The sessions, which are free and open to the public, will be held on three consecutive Thursday evenings this fall in Martinsville, Beech Grove and Fishers.

Laura Merrifield Wilson, associate professor of political science at the University of Indianapolis, will be the featured speaker, explaining why redrawing the state’s congressional districts now matters and how it could affect Hoosiers’ votes. Also, the attendees will have the opportunity to share their thoughts about the issues that matter most to them and their communities.

“These listening sessions provide an invaluable opportunity for Hoosiers to learn about redistricting and the impact the process could have on their vote,” Wilson said in a press release.

Indiana Republican legislators have been under pressure from the Trump administration to redraw the boundaries of the state’s congressional districts in order to boot the two Democratic representatives from the state’s delegation to the U.S. House. Already Texas and Missouri have followed President Donald Trump’s lead and reconfigured their congressional maps in order to give GOP candidates an advantage and attempt to dilute any blue wave in the November 2026 midterm election that could put the House in Democratic hands.

Each listening session will be from 6:30 to 8 p.m. on the following days and locations:

  • Oct. 30 – Morgan County Public Library, 110 S. Jefferson St., Martinsville;
  • Nov. 6 – Hornet Park Community Center, 5245 Hornet Ave., Beech Grove;
  • Nov. 13 – Geist Christian Church, 12756 Promise Road, Fishers.

Individuals interested in learning more about redistricting can register to attend at ReCenter Indiana.org/news or Eventbrite.com. Also, ReCenter Indiana will record each event to help inform policymakers about everyday Hoosiers’ perspectives.

“ReCenter Indiana is bringing Hoosiers together to learn, connect and be heard on issues that affect everyone, all across the state and across party lines,” Jocelyn Vare, executive director of ReCenter said in a press release.

Founded in 2022, ReCenter Indiana describes itself as a nonpartisan, nonprofit organization that informs and encourages Hoosiers to vote, be civically engaged and have a voice in their community.
