Indiana Lt. Gov. Micah Beckwith has been elected to the executive committee of the bipartisan National Lieutenant Governors Association, giving the first-term Republican a role in helping guide the organization that represents lieutenant governors across the country.
Beckwith was selected July 23 by his fellow lieutenant governors to serve as an at-large member of the association’s 2026-27 Executive Committee during the group’s annual meeting.
“I’m honored to represent Indiana and bring our Hoosier values to the national conversation,” Beckwith said in a statement announcing the appointment. “Indiana is proving that bold, principled leadership still works, and I look forward to sharing what is working here, bringing strong ideas back home, and making sure Hoosiers have a powerful voice at the table.”
The appointment comes as Beckwith has become one of Indiana’s most prominent conservative political figures during his first year and a half in office, drawing attention – and at times, bipartisan condemnation – for his comments on religion, education and national political issues.
The NLGA did not immediately respond to a question from The Indiana Citizen asking whether Beckwith is the first Christian nationalist to hold a leadership position.
NLGA’S website says the executive committee serves as the governing body of the National Lieutenant Governors Association, which is a nonpartisan organization founded in 1962 to promote collaboration among lieutenant governors and other second-in-command state officials. According to the organization, the committee helps guide the association’s priorities, leadership development programs and interstate partnerships.
The association’s 2026-27 chair is Kentucky Lt. Gov. Jacqueline Coleman, a Democrat, while Nevada Lt. Gov. Stavros Anthony, a Republican, will serve as chair-elect. The organization rotates its chair annually between the two major political parties.
The executive committee also includes lieutenant governors from both parties representing Idaho, Utah, Vermont, Rhode Island, North Carolina and Delaware. Former association chairs from Louisiana, Illinois, Michigan and South Carolina also serve as ex officio members.
Beckwith is one of seven at-large members elected to the executive committee, which meets throughout the year to oversee the association’s operations and priorities alongside its elected officers.
Beckwith, who took office in January 2025 alongside Gov. Mike Braun, oversees several state agencies and initiatives, including the Indiana Department of Agriculture, the Office of Community and Rural Affairs and the Office of Tourism Development. He is also tasked with heading up a faith-based institutions initiative by a Braun executive order.
