Professional Experience : | You may be thinking, "what experience does a photographer have to run for City Council?" Well, prior to becoming a full-time photographer (from part-time status in 2018), I spent my 20s and 30s in nonprofit management. While in undergrad, I worked for professors at IUPUI and IPFW, writing and editing their Federal Grant Proposals and submitting their Federal Reports. I then went to Girls Inc, National Resource Center at the age of 19 and served as their National Curriculum Development Assistant until finishing undergrad in 2005. There, I worked closely with the National Curriculum Director to write, edit, and manage the amazing curricula used nationally to help young girls to be strong, smart, and bold. Immediately after graduation, I was hired by Planned Parenthood of Indiana (now Planned Parenthood of Indiana & Kentucky) to serve as their Foundation & Annual Giving Officer. At PPIN, I wrote and managed about $300,000 in proposals for their general operating campaign. I also helped to put on major fundraisers like the Gathering Gods & Goddesses and worked with individual donors throughout the state who were passionate about women's health. After finishing graduate school in my mid-20s at IU School of Medicine with a Master's of Public Health, I was then hired by the Health & Hospital Corporation of Marion County (the entity that owns Eskenazi Health and the Marion County Public Health Department) where I served as the Grants Director at (then) Wishard Hospital. In that role, I was responsible for staff who wrote and managed about $28 million in funding annually to help support programming in and around Central Indiana. Some of this funding was Federal funds allocated to the state and other funds were from national and local foundations to support programming at the hospital including the ER, the Infusion Center, the Women's Health Center, Center for Hope, and more. In 2010, I was given the honor to serve as the Public Health Director of Women's Health in the Maternal and Child Health Division at the Indiana State Department of Health under the Daniel's administration. In this role, I managed 8 staff members who wrote and oversaw millions of dollars in funding for women's health programming throughout the state of Indiana. I travelled frequently to DC for funding meetings and managed about $40million in funding for the state. In tandem, I oversaw one-third of the state's 92 county health departments that offered women's health programming. After my one-year contract was over, I joined Second Helpings, Inc, a local nonprofit that transforms lies through the power of food where I was the Director of Development, managing marketing, development, volunteer, and event staff and helping to raise for a $2 million organization. And by my mid-30s, I established my own nonprofit management and development firm, "Paradigm Development Associates" where I had clients such as Downtown Indy, Inc, the American College of Sports Medicine, Play Ball Indiana, the Indiana Transgender Wellness Alliance, Emory University, and more. Some of these contracts included my in-house presence as the Foundation Director or the Business Development Director where I was in charge of raising and managing millions of dollars for each entity. In a nut shell, I know budget creation, management, development, and fundraising and I was one of the most successful development professionals in our state to date.
